Why Are Standards Used?

Standards are used for a variety of reasons. This course examines the benefits of standards for consumers, explains why industry uses standards, and explores the regulatory use of standards by government authorities.

Objectives

Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:

• explain the benefits of standards for consumers
• illustrate why industry uses standards
• explain the regulatory use of standards
• describe the benefits of standards for society in general
