Standards Development Process
Standards are developed by a variety of organizations worldwide. Despite their diversity, most standards organizations follow similar processes to develop standards. This course describes the most common processes used to develop industry, national, and international standards.
Objectives
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- explain the process for developing standards using examples of industry, national, and international procedures
- describe the globally recognized principles for standards development
- consider options for financing the standards development process
- identify resources for assistance in developing standards
Target Audience
This course is for anyone new to standards or those needing a refresher on the subject, such as:
- participants on standards committees
- corporate engineering, manufacturing, and design staff
- government and public administration staff
- university faculty and students (engineering, business, public policy, law)
- standards development organizations staff
